For several years Dan Sheehan was better known as "the guy from Banter," his cult status rock band from Boston, MA which later relocated to New York. In 2008 Sheehan's finally making his own name known with the release of his first solo work, The Dan Sheehan Conspiracy, which has garnered the singer/guitarist/songwriter/rocker nationwide airplay on commercial, college, and internet radio, multiple CMJ chart placements and resounding support from the local New York press.

A native of Long Island, New York, Sheehan formed his previous group, Banter, in the late 90s in Boston where he developed his performing skills playing such Boston-area hubs as The Middle East, TT the Bear's, and the Linwood (now The Church), later branching out to other parts of the Northeast, particularly New York (CBGB's, Brownie's, Continental) and Providence (The Living Room). Banter's 2 albums, Side One and Urban Pastures showcased the act's passionate blend of alternative and classic rock influences, received critical acclaim and got Sheehan's music on radio and TV throughout Massachusetts (WBCN, WAAF, WXRV, WERS, WMLN, New England Cable News).

Now back in his home city of New York, Sheehan has emerged from a lengthy confinement in his project studio to unleash his latest Conspiracy, on which Sheehan handles all vocals, guitars, bass, synth, and wind instruments, leaving the drumming to Morrissey veteran Spencer Cobrin and session man Roi Star. The DSC reveals what can happen when the driving force behind a band is released from group democracy and given carte blanche in terms of creative power. The anticipated alt-rock anthems such as "The Valley," and "See Kay" co-exist with folk rockers like "Rock Song" (a response to Simon & Garfunkel's "I Am a Rock") and the ballad "Before You Wake," keyboardless prog rockers "Epic Fantasy Adventure Song" and "Patterns of the Rain," as well and the politically charged rap-rocker "Collateral Damage," a biting commentary on Americans' apathy toward civilian deaths in Iraq. While the diversity of the collection might ruffle the feathers of a major label exec in search of a band driven by formula, The DSC's eclectic-ness serves it well, placing the album alongside classic albums of yore like The White Album or Led Zeppelin III, only with an up-to-date sound.

The album was produced and largely engineered by Sheehan himself, with a little help from ex-Toadies guitarist Darrell Herbert. In early 2008 The DSC debuted on radio on Long Island rock station WBAB's "Homegrown," and since has been played on roughly 150 stations in the U.S. and Canada. The live version of the band, which features drummer Bobby "King Baby," will be touring throughout the year, so look for The Dan Sheehan Conspiracy rocking a venue near you in 2008!
